The largest stone fort ever built in the United States, Fort
Monroe is still in active use by the Army. Once charged with
guarding the Chesapeake Bay, part of the installation is now a
museums. You can see exhibits on the fort's history and
artillery, as well as the cell which held President Jefferson
Davis at the end of the War Between the States.
Admission is free for children and
adults.
